Don’t Miss SCI’s Seminar on the Recent African Lion Listing

lionstandingSCI is hosting an informational seminar about the recent African lion listing during the 2016 Convention. The seminar entitled “What Were They Thinking? – the African Lion Rule” will take place in Breakers B at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM.

On January 22, 2016, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) implemented a final rule that divides the African lion into two separate subspecies and classifies those lions under the Endangered Species Act. As of that date, the subspecies of lions from central and western Africa are listed as endangered and the subspecies of lions in eastern and southern Africa are listed as threatened. The FWS also implemented a second, related rule applicable to those lions classified as threatened.   None of these lions hunted on or after January 22, 2016 can be imported into the United States without an importation permit.

If you, like many others in the hunting community, have questions about the finalization of these rules or would just like to know more, don’t miss the seminar. We hope to see you there.
