SCI Sacramento President Responds to Anti-Hunting Article

lionsonroadblogIn August, Don Giottonini, president of the Sacramento (CA) SCI Chapter responded to an article published in the Sacramento Bee, explaining how responsible hunting protects a number of species; including Africa lions. Giottonini described how Safari Club International, “invests millions of dollars in Africa to fund rangers, aircraft; trail cameras and telemetry equipment to combat poachers and to aid conservancies.” The investments made by SCI and hunters make a vital contribution to conservation efforts and generate revenue for local communities and wildlife agencies.

Giottonini also addressed how tightly regulated hunting has led to the, “recovery of several species, including the southern white rhinoceros, the Cape mountain zebra and the black wildebeest.” HSUS cannot show any relevant conservation work and is using the recent hunting of a lion to advance their political agenda.
