FWS Continues Zimbabwe Elephant Importation Ban in 2015

firstforhunterselephantcloseupWashington, D.C. – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today that it will continue the ban on the importation of sport-hunted elephants from Zimbabwe for the rest of 2015 and indefinitely into the future.  Despite receiving data and information from Safari Club, Zimbabwe, and many others regarding the benefits of elephant hunting in Zimbabwe, the Fish and Wildlife Service continues to insist that it lacks sufficient information to allow the imports.  Safari Club is reviewing the basis for the Fish and Wildlife Service’s decision and will provide further details in a subsequent release, including options for addressing this through litigation and/or legislation.  Stay tuned for updates on Safari Club’s response to this terrible decision.
