SCI and SCIFoundation Testify at Wildlife Trafficking Council Meeting

SCI DC StaffOn October 17, 2014, Matt Eckert of Safari Club International Foundation and Anna Seidman of Safari Club International attended and provided public comment at the fourth meeting of the Advisory Council on Wildlife Trafficking. In his comments, Matt Eckert told the Council that SCIF is trying to facilitate better communication of resources needed for anti-poaching efforts between the African governments and the U.S. He discussed the upcoming African Wildlife Consultative Forum meeting to be held in Ethiopia in two weeks. He informed the Council that poaching and anti-trafficking would be major topics of discussion between the African government representatives, members of professional hunting organizations and NGO liaisons scheduled to attend. In her comments on behalf of SCI, Anna Seidman recommended that the Council objectively research the impact and effectiveness of the elephant importation bans to reveal how the bans are not benefiting and are more likely harming anti-poaching and elephant conservation efforts in Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
