SCI Congratulates Congressman Don Young
Safari Club International (SCI) thanks Congressman Don Young (AK-AL) for his leadership on his bill H.R. 3728, the bi-partisan Wild Game Donation Act of 2013. Congressman Young’s legislation, H.R. 3728,amends the Internal Revenue Code to: 1. increase the tax deduction for charitable contributions of qualified wild game meat by the processing fees paid with respect to such contributions, and 2. exclude from the gross income of meat processors processing fees paid by a charitable organization for the processing of donated wild game meat. With most huntable wildlife populations on the rise, annual donations of wild game meat and fish to those in need have increased, and continue to increase with each year.
“Wild game meat is an organic and sustainable source of protein that millions of Americans consume each year. Congressman Young’s legislation will provide an additional incentive for the 15 million hunters of America to make more frequent donations of wild game meat,” said Joe Hosmer, SCI Foundation President. “Our program ‘Sportsmen Against Hunger’ always needs more game meat donations to better serve the citizens and families of our country who will benefit from an organic source of protein.”
Since Safari Club International started the “Sportsmen Against Hunger” program in 1989, millions of meals have been served at local soup kitchens, food banks, or other charitable organizations, such as The Salvation Army.
