SCI Files Comments on a Range of Hunting Issues

In the last few weeks, SCI has filed comments with federal and state agencies regarding black bear hunting in North Carolina, the use of off-road vehicles for hunting opportunities in the backcountry of the Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida, and a draft U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service policy on the growth of National Wildlife Refuge system. The black bear comments supported enhanced hunting opportunities based in part on the cultural carrying capacity for the species. The Big Cypress comments advocated for sufficient primary and secondary ORV trails in the Preserve’s backcountry so as to allow traditional hunting activities to continue or increase. The Wildlife Refuge comments criticized the Service because the draft policy on the growth the Refuge system failed to discuss or address hunting as part of that growth.  In these and other comments, SCI continues to advocate for increased and improved hunting opportunities across the country.
