SCI Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Federal Land Agencies

On Wednesday December 4, Safari Club International hosted a meeting of the Shooting Sports Roundtable. In attendance were government representatives of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the National Park Service (NPS), and the U.S. Forest Service along with NGO partners of SCI’s like the National Rifle Association, the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, the Public Lands Foundation, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. SCI hosts this roundtable quarterly with our NGO partners and the Federal land managing agencies.

The goal of the Roundtable is to identify common problems amongst the land management agencies and detail how their decisions are negatively impacting hunters and recreational shooters. Most of our time was devoted to discussing Resource Advisory Councils (RAC’s). RAC’s are a formal body that advises the BLM. Their role is significant in that they have the ability to directly influence the outcomes of public land management. If you are interested in being appointed to a RAC, please contact the SCI Washington Office at and include the word RAC in the subject line.
