SCI Co-Hosts Congressional Sporting Clays Event

Safari Club International co-hosted the 19th Annual Congressional Shoot-Out on May 12 and May 13 just outside of Washington, D.C.  The event brought together over 100 competitors from the sporting manufacturer, hunter-conservationist, and firearms industry. SCI’s unique role in sponsoring this event included the opportunity to shoot sporting clays with over 30 members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus.  SCI’s considers the Congressional Shoot Out to be integral to the development of relationships with members of Congress who care passionately about sportsmen’s issues.

SCI fielded two teams shooting with Congressman Austin Scott (GA-8) and Congressman Billy Long (MO-1). SCI’s teams were outfitted in excellent shooting shirts with the SCI logo on them courtesy of the Boyt Harness Company.  We thank them for their generous donation and their support of SCI’s advocacy mission.

Overall, team Republican took top honors, besting their fellow caucus members from across the aisle. SCI sponsored the 2013 Awards Ceremony. In the individual categories of the shootout, Representative Jeff Duncan (SC-3) was named the overall Top Gun Member of Congress. The Top Gun from team Democrat was Representative Collin Peterson (MN-7) and the Top Gun from team Republican was Representative John Kline (MN-2). The Top Skeet shooter was Representative Bill Huizenga (MI-2); Representative Steve Southerland (FL-2) won the Top Trap competition and Representative Steve Pearce (NM-1) won Top Sporting Clays.
